Mr.Nees

Who was Mr.Nees? Mr.Nees was a very kind-hearted teacher that loved and wanted to help everyone. He was always there to listen if you had a problem or needed help. He was a math teacher here at Kennedy and some students that didn’t like math liked it with him as a teacher. He was famous for playing his guitar and singing to his classes. He was also famous for his Hawaiian shirts. November 22 nd was a hard day for everyone when we found out that he got into a very bad accident that killed him and his daughter. Everyone was devastated and heartbroken by this news. In memory of him we had a huge paper outside of his room that you could write on and sign and we even had an open, mic night where you could come in and telling the awesome stories you had with him. As always, we had a pep assembly, but it wasn’t just any pep assembly, it was in memory of him. So, everyone wore a Hawaiian shirt to honor him. Hearing news that you lost apart of your family is always the worst especia...

The Christmas Secret

Image
On December 21st Kennedy had a secret Christmas party. Santa and Mrs. Clause were the plus some elves. They started this last year, some teachers were at lunch and talking about how they wanted to do something fun before Christmas break. I asked why they decided to keep it a secret and Mr. Johnson replied, "because its Christmas and that's always a secret" he had a valid point. Since people liked it last year they decided to do it again this year, it also worked out because home depot sent us a 7 foot tree. When getting a picture with Santa they would ask you "now what do you want for Christmas" and also give them candy before they left, not only did the people that get the pictures get candy some teachers passed out candy canes. If you didn't want any of those you could of also got hot coco or coffee or even cider. If you were hungry you could of got donuts and other delicious treats. Not only did you have to see Santa but you could also of drawn in col...

Media Law One thing I learned new about with the media law is that you have some restrictions but other then that you can do whatever. A new concept that I learned about was that obscenity can be anything viewed offensively, or inappropriate. when you think of inappropriate you think of language or actions, but there's a lot more. obscenity can be invasion of privacy and warnings. paparazzi is always being obscene because they are invading peoples privacy by constantly talking to them or asking the questions, and taking pictures/videos of them. For one of my papers I actually did the dress code for school, and one of the things was obscenity and that's when I got more interested into it. In journalism I learned a lot, and most of it was about how we do have rights and that the school cant take them away from us. We have a right to talk about most things. Journalism has taught me that I shouldn't be afraid to speak my mind, and that I do have an opinion and a voice ...

Kayla Coghlan Ms. Becker Period 6 Why should you read Lisa McMann books? Lisa is a great author, she has written many books. Her books are related to teenagers, so they can connect. The genres consist of drama/mystery/romance, if you a fan of these books you should really check them out. She has a series and her first book is called “Wake”.   Its about this young girl named Janie that works in a nursing home and has a weird power where she goes into people’s dreams, not on purpose it almost like she’s forced into them. At her jobs there’s this one elder No one know about this not even her best friend Carrie. When the person is having a nightmare its like she’s having a seizure. In the first book she is trying to figure out why this keeps happening to her. It’s the start of her senior year, and she falls in love with this guy named Cable, but little does she know that he is secretly working for police to fine a predator. Janie hangs out with him a couple of times and they ...
Kayla Coghlan Ms. Becker Period 6 What exactly is our dress code?             Have you ever wondered what our dress code is, or if we even had one? Well here at Kennedy, we do, and it’s a pretty good one. Our dress code has the basics no sexual offensive messages, tasteless or obscene messages, violence of laws and school messages. Basically, anything that isn’t appropriate for school grounds.   Some kids get bullied because of the clothes they wear so I asked Mr. Kline (the principal of Kennedy) on what his thoughts were about having a school uniform. He states “It could be considered. May be a violation of board policy and that may have to be changed to make it happen.” Having a uniform may upset the students but would it stop bulling? Today, you must wear name brand things including, Nike, Adidas, Champion, American Eagle… etc., If you have these clothes you are considered “popular”.        ...
Kayla Coghlan Ms. Becker 6 th period Gender roles being forced on kids             Why do parents tell their child that they need to wear something girly or boyish? Kids are kids and should be able to wear and play what they want. In this article they are talking about if girls have to wear girl clothes and do girl activities and if boys have to wear boy clothes and play boy activities. I feel as though our parents have some say when what we were but if a girl wants to wear basketball shorts and a graphic tee, or even more then she should be able to.             “The study calls it the hegemonic myth: the perception that men are the dominant sex, strong and independent, while women need to be protected.” the media interviewed parents and that’s what they had to say. In today’s society boys over power girls and we are supposed to sit back and let that happen, but i...
“Did one hit lead to a 13-year old’s suicide?”   My article is about a thirteen-year-old boy that committed suicide after a head injury during football. James Ransom has been playing football every since he was a little kid. His parents quote “‘My son would often go head and head, repeatedly,” Greg says. “Who knows how many times they were hitting each other like that?’” but why would they allow their child to go head and head like that knowing that concussion can cause damage? As James was playing a game him and another kid hit heads hard, no one knew when it happened but Greg (James dad) didn’t know until James told him. James was a perfectionist but his parents took him to the doctor and they noticed that he had obsessive-compulsive disorder (also known as ocd), in school he would say that he was a failure and wouldn’t succeed in life. With this hit to the head he became very violent and irritable. Sometimes he would grab his father from the neck, grind his teeth, t...
